What is laparoscopy?
It is a keyhole surgery into the abdominal cavity, which is minimally invasive, to visually the abdominal organs.
Can be of two types: Diagnostic & Operative
Indications
- Diagnosis of patency of fallopian tubes.
- Removal of uterine fibroids.
- Removal of the endometriotic cyst, dermoid, simple cyst.
- Tubal clipping/salpingectomy in the case of hydrosalpinx.
- Tuboplasty / tubal recanalization.
When can it be done?
It can be done anytime after the cessation of menses, usually day 7-8 of the menstrual cycle.
How long do I need to stay In the hospital?
Usually, when a diagnostic procedure is performed, day care admission is required In the case of an operative procedure, depending on the type 24-48 hours admission is required.
When can I resume routine activity?
In the case of a diagnostic procedure, rest of 1-2 days is fine, but in the case of an operative procedure, depending on the severity 2-5 days of rest is required.
How is it performed?
Done under short-acting general anesthesia.

- What is actually assessed during the laparoscopic procedure?
Basically, the external aspect of the uterus, fallopian tubes patency, ovaries, Tuboovarian relationship is assessed. Also, additional presence/absence of adhesions, endometriosis, tuberculosis, cyst etc can also be assessed. - How many stitches?
Approx 2-3, of 4-5 mm each. - How many days rest is required?
